As part of PIARCs 26th World Road Congress, PIARC's Technical Committee C1 is organising a workshop on PIARC's Road Safety Manual (RSM) & the UN Global Road Safety Targets.
The PIARC Road Safety Manual provides a wealth of information to support countries seeking to improve their road safety performance, including detailed guidance and case studies on best-practice. The implementation of that best-practice varies worldwide, and the workshop will focus on the implementation challenges in relation to safe system policy, planning, financing, design, construction and maintenance of safer roads.
The workshop will specifically highlight sections of the Manual that can assist countries at all levels of practice in taking the necessary changes in road safety and infrastructure safety management, with a particular focus on safe system transformations. Stakeholders from around the world will provide their practical experiences from low, middle and high-income countries.
The capacity building, implementation and institutional improvements needed to ensure the UN Member State agreed Road Safety Performance Targets for 2030 are achieved will be discussed.
Workshop participants will debate the priorities for the next ten years and how, as a global community, we can succeed in meeting the UN Targets and the Sustainable Development Goals.
